Vera's Room - Work in Progress, Studio 2000-21
Vera Kasmiach - (anagram of Maria Chevska)
The installation is unified by whiteness – quite a secretive space, ‘furnished’ with both real and abstracted forms. The repeated Cone shape represents memory.
It was begun at the turn of 2000 with the desire to recall and retain both my own, and, others background experiences as a result of the violent upheavals of the C20. My paintings, by contrast, are not making overt references to specific narratives - yet materiality is the language common to both.
Also, I started it in the orbit of the wars in Europe at the time 1991 -2001 (the break-up of the former Jugoslavia).
Vera (K) inherits the flux, chaos, and rejection of those circumstances – she is history, present, and future.
[Room] a repository of incomplete thoughts, archaic emotions, fear of loss, lack of power in the face of ……….. And, also, literally a repository for things and objects that could reside with Vera.
Since Vera’s Room is never complete - the collection is still open to receive…
