Lockdown Drawings Project 2020/22,
DRAWINGS
March 2020/21/22
During the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 I took the opportunity to make drawings with the limited means available at home. They were made using drawing pens on paper, and with colour inks, or oil crayons.
This has developed as an ongoing series of works on paper….
These drawings are intuitive with their use of materials, and they focus on the very ordinary; our individual senses, and their intimate perceptions of things. The drawings adhere to one another, often repeating gestures, such as hearing, whispering, touching, watching– they focus in on the bodily senses, and often the thoughts and attentions of a single day.
I had in mind the filmmaker Tarkovsky –
‘thought to not only say but to show, the simple things (visually atmospherically within his
films), - it is implicitly a bid to make art. Art considered to be what we are here for’… *
- Geoff Dyer writing in a Zone publication to describe Tarkovsky’s filmmaking.
